On June 6, 1944, the Allies launched the invasion to liberate Europe and ultimately achieve regime change in Nazi Germany. This amphibious operation reminds us that our freedom relies on a few Americans at times of national peril to make the ultimate sacrifice.
We salute those that served on that momentous day and we are grateful to those that gave the full and final measure on the beaches of Normandy and from the airborne operations that preceded the amphibious landing.
My father was one of the pilots who flew in the airborne operations on D-Day. His glider crash landed and he lay in the field with two broken legs for three days before he was evacuated
